Alvin had the brilliant idea of building a runway on the island so that access would be much easier. He therefore commissioned a 2, runway for the island. This was good business sense at the time — access to the island would have opened up so many possibilities for the island. The runway is still on Castaway Cay, but it is not used as an airstrip. It is now used as a road to get to Serenity Bay, which is the adults only beach on Castaway Cay. You will also ride down this road if you rent a bike to explore. Drug smugglers. Cabeza de Vaca's misadventures stumbling through what is now southern America and northern Mexico. Several of these events are interesting, and the ending is excellent. I think you have to love history more than I to really love this one. The amazing thing about most discoveries and science is history's portrayal of them as if we knew what we were doing all along. Cabeza de Vaca's journal or stories at the least are a great read to knowing of the native world that existed and we now know as the countries around the Gulf of Mexico.
